Favorites

We all have our favorite things and our favorite memories from childhood. When I was small I loved how my parents would always take me and my sisters to the park, swimming, skating, bowling and more. I loved how every Saturday night we had a big family dinner and movie night at our house. I loved playing Uno and snacking on popcorn. I really loved going to visit my grandparents, which we did quite often.

Growing up I was an avid reader. I enjoy reading now, but I spent much more time with my nose in a back then than I do these days. My favorite genre was and still is mystery so every time we would visit my father's mom I would always ask to borrow a book from her collection. She had Hardy Boys, Ellery Queen, Bobbsey Twins and my favorite: Nancy Drew. These books all had belonged to my aunt when she was growing up and I loved them. I read all the ones at my grandmother's house and when I finished those, I checked out any others I could find from the public library and from my school library. I got a few of the recent ones when I was in high school, but I certainly did not own very many.

A few years ago, my grandmother moved into assisted living and my aunt offered me all of her old Nancy Drew books. I jumped at the opportunity to have them! They were so much a part of my childhood and I still loved all things Nancy Drew so of course I accepted her generous offer. At the time I received them, I was still living at my mom's house so I just put them into my closet to go through later. I had pretty much forgotten about them until last week when I finally went back to get them.

I was so excited to see them again and go through the box to see what all I had.

I believe most of these books are from the 60s and 70s. They are all vintage yellow matte hardcover books. I checked and discovered that there were 56 books total made in this style and I'm only missing 17, but I actually have several duplicate books.

I'm so stoked to have these! I feel like a kid again. =)

What are some of your favorite things from childhood? Do you have a collection?

SCORE!
I love when things like this happen. Not the part of your auntie having to move into assisted living, but when you come into something that you knew and enjoyed as a child and that brought so many happy memories.
Enjoy those Nancy Drews...I'm jealous.
